Finding time on my hands due to a missed communication or perhaps a lack of communications, i drove up the Marin Headlands towards "Construction 129". Construction 129 was supposed to be the tallest gun emplacement commanding the approach to the Golden Gate during WWII. However, as the plaque over the entrance approach/tunnel proclaimed, the guns were never brought in. The battery was built, complete with gun pit and hardware for manhandling the guns. The guns themselves were constructed and, in fact, completed. However, upon realizing that the guns are going to be obsolete against any enemies that would approach from the Pacific, the site was abandoned.
Aside from various areas smelling strongly of urine, a walk through Construction 129 leads to Hawk Hill and a commanding view of the Pacific Ocean and an elevated position covering and protecting the various forts positioned on the Marin Headlands.
For a pretty much useless morning, it was a rather nice excursion that salvaged the time expended.
